Nova Scotia’s Provincial Nominee Program is a popular immigration program. It is designed to attract highly skilled candidates to live and work in this important province of Canada. Here we will discuss the important updates related to this program. But first of all, let’s go through this overview of Nova Scotia.

A Little Bit about Nova Scotia

Counted among the smallest provinces in Canada, Nova Scotia is located in the Maritimes regions of the nation. Although smaller in size, Nova Scotia is known for its natural resources. The province includes the Nova Scotia peninsula, Cape Breton Island, and more than 3,000 smaller islands. The capital of Nova Scotia is Halifax, a home of culture and the arts. The presence of the sea makes it an attractive coastal city.

Immigration to Nova Scotia through Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Nova Scotia has the Provincial Nominee Program or PNP to invite skilled foreign workers to live and work in the province. To qualify for this program, candidates should have a job offer from an employer based in Nova Scotia, or have work experience in one of the key occupations in Nova Scotia. It was launched in 2003 to address economic and labour market needs through immigration to Nova Scotia.

The program brings over 7,000 new immigrants to Canada each year. Nova Scotia PNP has been instrumental in the ever-increasing retention rate of the province along with the AIP. These programs (Nova Scotia PNP and AIP) also help make it easier for foreign graduates and temporary workers to apply for PR.

This program is related to the Express Entry Immigration system, letting successful applicants get quick processing on their immigration applications. There are two ways to apply for Nova Scotia either through the Express Entry Stream or directly applying to the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration (NSOI). In either case, you are required to create an Express Entry profile on Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and submit a complete application to the NSOI.

Nova Scotia has several immigration streams to choose from, such as Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry, Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities, Physician, Entrepreneur, International Graduate Entrepreneur, and Skilled Worker. The next point will explain each of these immigration streams in detail.

Understanding the Different Immigration Streams of Nova Scotia PNP

Nova Scotia Demand (Express Entry):

This stream targets highly skilled individuals who will be able to join and contribute to the economy of Nova Scotia. To become eligible for this program, you have to get a job offer from a Nova Scotia employer or gain work experience in one of the in-demand occupations in Nova Scotia. This program is integrated with the federal Express Entry Immigration system, thereby speeding up the processing of immigration applications.

Nova Scotia Experience (Aligned with Express Entry):

This stream is designed for skilled workers who want to live and work in Nova Scotia permanently. To get qualified, candidates should have at least one year of experience working in Nova Scotia in a high skilled occupation. This program is also aligned with the Express Entry Immigration system.

Nova Scotia Skilled Worker:

The Nova Scotia Skilled Worker allows Nova Scotia employers to hire foreign workers and fresh graduates. If a skilled worker gets a job offer from a Nova Scotia-based employer, they might be able to submit an application through this stream to support their immigration process.

Nova Scotia Physicians:

The Nova Scotia Physicians is useful for the individuals who want to work in the healthcare organizations of Nova Scotia. This stream helps the public health organizations to meet the labour shortage in the province.

Nova Scotia Entrepreneur:

The Nova Scotia Entrepreneur Stream helps experienced entrepreneurs or senior business managers who want to run a business in Nova Scotia. To become eligible for this program, applicants should have significant funds and be willing to start a new business or purchase an existing business in Nova Scotia. After running their business in Nova Scotia for one year, applicants can opt for permanent resident status.

Nova Scotia International Graduate Entrepreneur:

This stream is meant for fresh graduates enrolled in Nova Scotia universities and colleges who have started or bought a Nova Scotia business and run it for at least one year. If an applicant meets these requirements and looks to settle in Nova Scotia permanently, they might opt for this stream.

Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities:

This stream lets Express Entry Candidates with work experience apply for high-demand positions in Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia Occupations in Demand:

This stream is meant for workers who have a job offer from a Nova Scotia-based employer in a high occupation field. Some of the eligible programs under this stream are nurses, orderlies, patient services associates, transport truck drivers, heavy equipment operators, construction trades helpers, and labourers.

Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program:

Nova Scotia is also a member of the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP). The AIPP is an economic growth program founded in partnership between Canada’s Atlantic Provinces and the governments. AIPP supports the immigration process for newcomers who have received a job offer from an employer in the Atlantic region of Canada.

Why Work With Experienced Immigration Consultant for Your Nova Scotia PNP Application

While the process for opting for Nova Scotia PNP might seem easy, things can go complicated at any point.

Keep in mind that there is a higher risk of refusal in cases where the application is not properly prepared. The documentation and processes involved in getting a PNP are complicated. That’s why should consider an experienced immigration expert.

From helping you with paperwork, interviews, and ticket booking, a good immigration expert takes care of everything involved from the start. It not only reduces hassles but also increases the chances of success of your application.
